16th Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School Student’s conference

IPSSC3

From 29th to 31st of May 2024 the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School (IPS) Student’s conference took place. This is an annual event that aims to bring together PhD student of IPS and give them the opportunity to present their research to peers in various research areas. Tim Ravnjak gave an oral presentation with the title: Toxicity of Bisphenol A, its analogues Bisphenol AP and Bisphenol C and their binary mixtures, in which he presented his findings about emerging issues with gradual replacement of Bisphenol A (BPA) with its analogues. The study concludes that investigated BPA analogues are not safer alternatives to BPA and that there is a concerning research gap in our knowledge of the toxicological profile of BPA analogues. Tim’s research was performed on HepG2 3D cell models (spheroids), thus being aligned with EU REACH legislation 3R (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) strategy, that aims to implement new in vitro methodologies to minimize in vivo animal testing and obtain more relevant results for humans. In addition to the oral presentation, Tim also presented his work with a poster. The work was financially supported within the frame of HEU project CutCancer, which was also acknowledged on the poster and oral presentation.
