Eight participants from the National Institute of Biology (NIB) attended a three-day workshop on genotoxicity at Swansea University in June 2024, hosted by Prof. Dr. Shareen Doak. The workshop focused on sharing knowledge and best practices in laboratory techniques, project applications, and genotoxicological research as part of the CutCancer project.
Participants explored advanced equipment for the assessment of toxicity and genotoxicity of nanomaterials and chemicals, learned about relevant legislation, and discussed new methods for assessing genotoxic effects. Highlights included presentations on microscopy and risk assessment of genotoxicity and mutagenicity, as well as lectures on nanomaterials, nanotoxicology, and lung models for testing air pollutants. The event included a tour of advanced microscopy facilities and discussions on integrating nanoparticles into consumer products. The workshop provided valuable insights and fostered opportunities for future collaboration.
