Future Scientists in Action!

Untitled (33 x 15 cm)

Last Thursday, 17th of April, our institute had the pleasure of hosting a group of enthusiastic primary school students from Ribnica for a day full of science, discovery, and fun.

The visit began with an interactive workshop where the kids took part in hands-on lab tasks. They practiced pipetting, identified microscopic images of cells and zebrafish embryos at different developmental stages, and tested their knowledge of lab equipment. One of the highlights was a friendly pipette tip-filling competition that brought out their scientific spirit and some impressive hand-eye coordination!

The excitement continued with a simple yet fascinating experiment—DNA isolation from various fruits. The students were amazed to see genetic material with their own eyes, bringing the science they learn in school to life.

Dressed in lab coats and protective gear, our young visitors then toured the laboratories of the Department of Genetic Toxicology and Cancer Biology, as well as the Department of Organisms and Ecosystem Research. These guided visits gave them a glimpse into the real work of scientists and sparked many curious questions.

It was a joyful and inspiring day for everyone involved. We hope we managed to plant the seeds of scientific curiosity in these bright young minds—and maybe even meet a few future colleagues!
